Anne-Marie Russell works at the intersection of art, preservation and cultural policy, bringing together diverse stakeholders to create dynamic and inclusive “third places”. As Director of MOCA Tucson, she led the transformation of a fire station into a contemporary art museum, was a founder of the Modern Architecture Preservation Project, spearheaded the preservation of an important Garrett Eckbo landscape and worked to preserve historic warehouses, catalyzing urban revitalization through cultural adaptive reuse. She was founding Director of the Sarasota Art Museum, where she led the transformation of a 1926 “Collegiate Gothic” high school into a contemporary art museum and was the founding Director of Architecture Sarasota. She currently works in the realm of preservation, education and advocacy as an independent scholar and consultant.
